Estudio demarchisalcedo.arqs as Architects

In a residential low density area near the Neuquén River in the homonymous city, the ProvinciasUnidas Neighborhood Sports Center is located, projected by demarchisalcedo.arqs + Barigelli & Assoc. studies.

The proposal is located in a short hilly terrain with a block size ramp.

It takes on an important main artery of the city that defines its profile of a building scale.

This urban element seeks to connect two not integrated areas of the district, and to secure urban spaces for activities and social meeting.

Surrounded by recreational areas, such as a soccer field and playground, this building comes to propose a weather protection within the recreational outdoor circuit.

The building, used for the ProvinciasUnidas Neighborhood Commission is at an intermediate fraction of the assigned lot between Islas Malvinas, Río Mocoretá y Alberti streets.

This lot had an existing building that should be enhanced and append as an administrative center for the neighborhood commission of the district.

Linked by a private circulation inside the sports center, it was complement volumetrically by a staircase joining the two proposed dry parks, one at main income level and the other one as a neighborhood scale.

This project adapts its formal and programmatic resolution to linking the two existing pedestrian scales, searching a new circulatory activity. It seeks to save a big ramp by generating a socket that hosts the program services.

Used mostly for recreational activities for children and teenagers of the area, a dry access plaza was raised that can be used as an outdoor sports center in mild weather days.

It is also a destination for fruits and vegetables weekend fair that originally was developed in that place, so this should be respected even as a ephemeral use but strong presence in the neighborhood.

This dry park defines the main access of the building. It is in this strategic level where the building is intended functionally and formally.

The building volume is generated as a neutral response on the main artery and gives a more permeable and plastic resolution on the secondary streets, where access parks, courtyards and items of equipment are situated. Here's how the building is on one edge of the ground releasing part of it and creating an urban empty space.

Its morphology and materiality form concrete socket walls on the floor ground that covers all sanitary and related services, containing thus the main activity. The use of low-maintenance materials over time were thought, as the raw concrete, precast concrete blocks and wall polycarbonate, the total components of materiality.

In the first level, the materialization pursues the unit, and this is generated with the use of concrete blocks arranged in an inverted position as a permeable screen that controls light entering the field sifting the lighting changes that are generated daily.

Being our region a wide temperature range area, high summer temperatures (40 ° C) and low in winter (2 ° C), the treatment of sunlight is essential having to cover ourselves from it at certain times and trying to capture it in others. So we opted for the use of concrete blocks arranged in this way, because when the sun is high in summer, it admission is not allowed and when the sun is low in winter, it gives way to its rays towards the interior.

A second inner membrane composed of panels of translucent polycarbonate framed in a metal structure, allows full opening to generate a complete ventilation in summer days and in turn allow entry for maintenance of the facade.

The cover that must save considerable lights (23m x 32m) is designed from a synergistic resistant lightweight tissue that accompanies and reinforces formal general resolution.

Designed and calculated as a stereo-structure and materialized by rods tubes white pre-painted steel, allowed us a constant visual unit as well as having the light fixtures to our need.

The program disposal is designed based on use needs as well as weather conditions. Service areas such as bathrooms, locker rooms and warehouses were placed in the most unfavorable orientation in the area that is west facing in certain months, as is the orientation of wind and strong sun in summer. The changing rooms were placed on the ramp ground, at-route service to facilitate the athletes movement for internal circulation.
