The regeneration of a small public space in front of a local library and theater is a first phase of a wider regeneration masterplan in Prague - Zbraslav municipality.
Spatial organization and functional relationships of the location were negatively affected in the past by the construction of a busy river bank road and consequently of an anti-flood wall.
The anti-flood wall which was completed in 2009 cut the town off from its river. Due to its spatially demanding construction process all trees and greenery from U Male reky street were removed and the site was left bare with partially and temporarily repaired surfaces.
The public piazza is an important local social and cultural centre of gravity, mainly due to the presence of the Municipal Library and the Kaska Theater. Both buildings were regenerated after the great 2002 floods and they offer a variety of cultural activities for the general public.
The aim of the regeneration is to create a social space for meeting and relaxation. It was essential to improve the accessibility of the buildings and to make the site spatially unambiguous. Therefore we have designed a stepped piazza open to all sides. A ramp provides step free access, a bench, bicycle stands, a new light pole and new landscaping were added to furnish the public character of the site.
