Seba and Juli came to our studio with the need to generate new surface in their house. The pandemic made them stay in their house for a long time, realizing that they did not have a space to work, as well as an area to listen to music or practice yoga.

Studying the house and the way of living, we detected that the covered garage was only used at night. Therefore, it was thought that this space would be the one to solve its interior needs. For the storage of the car, we would take advantage of the retreat that the house has towards the front to generate a semi-covered space of light structure. This space would serve as a roofed entrance for the people and a sector to place the vehicle in the shelter, being also a new expansion of the interior space, acting as a bellows with the exterior.

We thought it was important for the new (old) space to have warmth and good visuals to the outside (characteristics that it did not have), so we replaced the blind plates of the existing gate with translucent glass to generate good natural lighting that provides quality and warmth. Therefore, our extension had to meet these requirements: it could store a car, motorcycle or bikes, but without losing visual warmth and natural lighting.

For this reason we thought of a roof that dematerializes towards the north, losing the opaque elements that do not allow sunlight to pass through and leaving only those necessary to support the translucent sheet metal. In this way, a crisscrossing of lines is generated: the nailer that anchors and supports the sheet metal and the brace that carries the load of the roof. The lines begin to play an important role in the project and everything is thought based on them, emphasizing it in the design of the enclosure wall, the door, the gate, the artificial lighting, the striping of the sidewalk, etc., unifying the different elements that make up the new project.
