The contemporary healthcare landscape faces the challenge of becoming more sustainable. Rijnstate Elst, an innovative new construction project, is developing into a health home with an innovative, sustainable patient-oriented approach to outpatient care. The small-scale care complex is a precursor to the transformation of traditional hospital models into healthier living and care environments. With a focus on a healing environment and fully outpatient care, this compact 13,000 m2 outpatient health center serves.
The health center provides a stimulating environment that improves both treatment and work processes. The building is designed with a green atrium, fruit trees and plenty of natural light, contributing to a calming and healing environment. Rijnstate is not only a pleasant care environment but also a social meeting point in the neighborhood. Thanks to its central location and various facilities, such as a restaurant and a supermarket, the building attracts both patients and local residents. By offering spaces for meeting, information, prevention and education, the design promotes a seamless integration of care and daily life. In addition, Rijnstate has grown into a center of innovation and education by renting out spaces for short-term use, study and consultation.
The health center not only emphasizes a healing environment, but also sets a new standard in sustainability in the healthcare sector. The building is gas-free, all-electric and has a hydrogen energy tank. This system contributes to a saving of 42,000 m3 of gas annually. In addition, 2,300 m2 of solar panels provide a large part of the energy supply, with excess energy can be stored in the hydrogen energy tank. Innovative installations such as smart facade designs, ventilation and demountable materials contribute to flexibility and future-proofing.
This innovative design serves as an example for future global developments in healthcare.
