A new architecture acts by affinity with the existing architecture to build a new complexity.
The architectural proposal seeks an expressive relationship between the volume of the existing project and the environment, by proposing a principle of implantation that operates a strong relationship with the present and future context. Our proposal scrupulously respects the program, in a logic adapted to each function in the desired configurations and surfaces.
Three intentions characterize our new building: the first in the dialogue of functions with the existing architecture while respecting the program; the second in the volumetric attraction and the maintained expression of the two buildings and finally with a new look at the surrounding environment.
The volume is confronted with its context, landscape on the one hand and architecture on the other. The proposed principle remains in line with the strong points of the concept, even if we have sought to go beyond a simple gesture, by seeking a measure, a tension between the defined spaces (courtyard and landscape), a balance with the old building,by finding in an origami roof resting on the ground, reflective and light towards the landscape preserving a logic of economy, in a prefabrication, by forging the more dynamic overall image with its environment.
A rhythm of the structure with a clear logic, realizes a project by making it simpler in construction, while keeping the coherence and expression of the image in relation to the needs of the project owner. A structural sequence punctuated by variable spans from 4.5 to 5.5 to 6.5 meters depending on the requirements of the program and according to the internal activity spaces on both floors. This layout idea suggested very different facades: the North facade, compact and sober, thanks to a studied integration of technical elements such as the numerous sectional doors and the porch roof, displays an image that is always expressive and communicative with the existing building and the internal courtyard.
A new look is emerging. A canopy, developed by sliding the facade 3 meters inwards, gives continuity to the built front and offers protection to all staff during inclement weather. The same porch roof hollows out the built volume on the east and west wings, adapting perfectly to the needs of the program; the west facade favors the main entrance, creating a protected and illuminated parking space thanks to overhangs of about 6.5 m. On the other side, the same hollowed-out volume provides a covered storage space on the east facade. The south facade becomes the natural extension of the roof, appearing as a single envelope.
The work of the forms of this dynamic hull, marries heaven and earth. The "mirror" effects nourish the landscape with these spatial and changing interrelationships. The protections are skillfully treated, as well as the light management.
This double skin thus participates in the life of the building and in the landscape spectacle.
The translucent polycarbonate provides good diffused natural light in the workspaces inside the building and, at night, allows part of the building to be illuminated in continuity with the existing one, the light strip indicating the new Technical Center from Rixheim.
The perforated stainless steel vertical venetian blinds protect the polycarbonate facade from any solar overexposure, considering that it takes in its shape the large, mirrored porch roof and becomes the unifying element of the entire project.
The overall image becomes naturally coherent and fully participates in the landscape. The strong visual impact is the forerunner of a characterized and voluntary urban development. This ensemble will remain the symbol of urban renewal while respecting existing identities and an essential landmark.
