The reform of a duplex on the top two floors of a building in the ski resort of Formigal is proposed. Access is through the first floor, with a conventional configuration between slabs, from which the upper floor is accessed, a space under the roof characterized by sloping ceilings, great heights and numerous openings for the entry of zenithal light. The original layout located the public areas of the program on the access floor, while the upper floor housed bedrooms and bathrooms.

It is immediately apparent that with this layout the public spaces do not benefit from the possibilities offered by the section and, in addition, the obligatory compartmentalization of the night areas conflicts with the excessive height of the upper floor. Thus, the proposal lies fundamentally in inverting the original order.

The direct communication of the entrance with the stairwell solves the natural transition from the street to the public area of the house.The ground floor is resolved by a conventional distribution with corridor and rooms. Upstairs, on the other hand, there is a single open space that benefits from the fabulous views at both ends of a markedly longitudinal floor plan.

The plastic manipulation of the roof seeks to insinuate subtle transitions between the different zones, in order to provide an orderly reading of the whole. The space is compressed in the passage areas, favoring the shining of the spaces of greater height, which are made to coincide with the skylights. Finally, the chromatic treatment of these two hierarchies abounds in the marked contrast that characterizes and enhances them.
