S 145 HOUSE

Our take on a 8000 sft Luxury house in the suburbs of Bangalore!

The client approached us with a 4000 SFT South facing plot, ina gated community in the suburbs of Bangalore. The design intent was to build a house which has ample light and ventilation throughout the day, keeps the family well knit and connected through spaces and levels.

The program dictated us to have the ground floor for parking and services, and start the house from the first floor level. The first floor comprises of the common areas – The formal and informal Living rooms, a raised garden which one steps out from the Informal Living, thereby having to feel nature at an elevated level as well.

The Puja sits in a double height space which makes the main courtyard of the house which floods in sufficient light, and also acts as a interactive space across levels. The Dining, Dry and wet Kitchens occupy further the periphery of the house and a guest bedroom is tucked in the South west corner.

The maids entry to the house is through a separate staircase tucked away behind the two utility spaces on the stilt and first floor levels. The Puja sits majestically over a double height ,floating over a waterbody having a beautiful concrete panel backdrop, which feels as if the Puja entity is jutting out from a mass of concrete. The clients host large gatherings of people in the house, and wanted the courtyard to open up to accommodate their guests.

The Staircase courtyard is a triple height and leads all the way to the top, where the staircase terminates; We have incorporated a seater detail in the staircase court, since the clients wanted a “Jagali katte” concept of seating, which mimics a relaxed seating –interaction space that is found traditionally in villages.

The second floor has two large bedrooms, and a study; The third floor of the house makes up another bedroom, a dedicated Spa, a Entertainment and  a Bar room breaking out into a landscaped terrace.

We have used terracotta and tip wood as sun-breaker elements since the house faces the South. We have introduced multiple skylights in the house, to ensure sufficient sunlight throughout the day.

The overall Design language of the house is that of a modern contemporary house, with hues of luxury combined with traditional elements.

Sectionally, the house is connected through the levels of the house, by means of the double and triple height volumes. The design palette of the interiors is minimal, yet opulent, resonating with the client’s tastes.
