Analogous to a well considered garment, the design for this house rigorously pursued aesthetic, structural, and performative considerations; like clothing, it modulates exposure of the body to the environment around it. Situated on a hillside, this adaptive remodel demanded privacy while preserving views. The building's envelope was reinvented as a tightly woven, partially operable skin that systematically loosens to reveal open living spaces and view beyond. In addition to providing natural ventilation, the tectonic assembly enables the building itself to breath. Materiality, opacity, and pattern are all manipulated to enable specifically choreographed moments of interior porosity, culminating in outdoor living space.
