Translating hospitality standards into buildable outcomes

Skylar by Meridian is an Ascott‑branded hospitality development where the challenge extended beyond the design itself. The project required the translation of established hospitality standards into a coordinated technical package capable of supporting tendering, construction and long‑term operation within the Cambodian context.

Balancing international standards and local delivery

The reception lobby, guest rooms and public spaces were developed within a framework shaped by both international hospitality requirements and local construction realities. While brand standards established expectations for guest experience, operational performance and maintainability, these requirements also needed to respond to local building codes, construction methodologies and procurement processes.

This intersection between global standards and local delivery formed a central challenge throughout the project. Every design decision required careful consideration to ensure consistency across the development while remaining practical for implementation on site.

Coordinating multiple stakeholders

The project brought together the interests of the developer, brand representatives, consultants and future operators, each with distinct requirements and priorities. Throughout the technical design phase, ongoing reviews, audits and feedback cycles informed the development of the final construction package.

Maintaining alignment between these stakeholders required continuous evaluation of technical requirements, maintenance considerations and project objectives. This process helped establish a shared understanding of how the project would be delivered before construction commenced.

Resolving complexity before construction

Skylar by Meridian demonstrates how internationally branded hospitality projects must reconcile guest experience standards, local delivery requirements and long‑term operational considerations before construction begins. Resolving these relationships during the technical design phase establishes a shared framework for project delivery and future operation.
