Bringing the soul of the Athenian Riviera to Dubai Harbour. Where the sound of the sea meets the rhythm of the night, Son of a Fish is a coastal Greek restaurant shaped by its waterfront surroundings and inspired by Mediterranean seaside living. The restaurant reflects a social dining culture where atmosphere, texture and energy come together naturally, allowing the experience to evolve from day into evening as the marina transforms after sunset.
Located at Dubai Harbour, the space was envisioned as a destination that feels closely connected to its surroundings, where materials, light and spatial flow support a relaxed coastal environment. The design focuses on creating a setting that feels natural and grounded, allowing the food, people and waterfront context to define the overall experience.
At HKZ Interior Decoration, the project was approached with a focus on delivering a cohesive fit-out that balances aesthetics with functionality while maintaining consistency across architectural elements, finishes and furniture. As an experienced interior fit out company in dubai, HKZ Interior Decoration executed the works with attention to detail and long-term performance suited to a waterfront hospitality environment.
Fit-Out Execution
HKZ Interior Decoration delivered the fit-out works for Son of a Fish, executing key architectural and interior elements that define the character of the restaurant. The scope included interior fit-out works, ceiling treatments, wall finishes, architectural detailing, and coordination of furniture integration across both indoor and outdoor seating areas. Royal Shades Curtains handled the furniture scope, while SAZ Steel Fabrication carried out the metal structural works and fabrication.
The project was executed with careful consideration for durability and performance, ensuring that materials and finishes maintain their quality within a coastal environment while supporting the operational requirements of a busy dining venue.
Design Language and Key Elements
The design language throughout Son of a Fish is calm, organic and tactile. Natural materials and earthy tones define the palette, creating an environment that feels connected to Mediterranean coastal architecture. The overall composition prioritizes softness and continuity, allowing textures and layered elements to shape the spatial experience.
A defining feature of the restaurant is the layered ceiling treatment, where solid wood elements are combined with soft chute fabric panels, adding depth and visual rhythm to the space. Rope tassels are introduced as subtle decorative details, referencing coastal craftsmanship while adding texture and character in a restrained and contemporary manner.
Stone-textured walls, plaster-finished surfaces and rounded architectural forms further reinforce the Mediterranean influence, creating a setting that feels cohesive and balanced without excessive ornamentation.
Connection to the Surroundings
Large glazed openings frame uninterrupted views of the marina, maintaining a constant visual connection with the water and skyline. Interior and exterior areas transition naturally into one another, allowing guests to experience different seating zones while remaining connected to the harbour environment.
Furniture selections executed by Royal Shades Curtains complement the architectural language through woven textures, comfortable proportions and muted tones that integrate seamlessly within the overall design. Seating arrangements support social interaction while maintaining comfort across extended dining periods.
Design Outcome
Son of a Fish demonstrates how thoughtful material selection, careful layering and precise execution can create a strong sense of place within a waterfront setting. The project achieves a balance between comfort, durability and visual identity, resulting in a restaurant environment that feels natural and cohesive from arrival through to late evening service.
The result is a space designed for shared meals, conversation and atmosphere, perfectly aligned with the coastal character of Dubai Harbour and the evolving dining culture of the city.
