Located on a sloping site between a busy highway and serene woods, the siting of this home is critical. The design begins with a cave containing a family and media room, positioned up the slope far enough to mitigate road noise, but forward enough to minimize disturbance to earth and woods. The cave opens to a trellised terrace and breezeway, which culminates in an infinity edged pool overlooking the serene valley below. 

The rest of the home is comprised of precision built, prefabricated home units organized around the breezeway axis. To the north, two units create living, dining, kitchen and master suite spaces. These units are offset so that light and views fill the windows of each unit. One more unit south of the breezeway houses additional bedrooms. Outdoor kitchen and spa complete the compound. 

The trellis over the terrace at the entrance to the cave shelters it from harsh western sun. The factory-built units, designed for energy efficiency and comfort, are crafted of green materials and utilize green fixtures, radiant floor heat, and other elements that contribute both actively and passively to healthful, eco-friendly living.
