The City of Berlin called for an open competition for the former Tempelhof airfield, whose air traffic was discontinued in 2008. The city will spend an estimated €60 million on developing the park from 2010 to 2017, hosting the International Garden Exhibition in 2017. On the weekend of 8/9 May 2010, the outfield was festively opened as Berlin's largest public park named "Tempelhofer Feld". McGregor Coxall’s design for the urban landscape plan visually illustrates the design intend of physically connecting and weaving the community and the park together again. The park is seen as a connecting hub for the surrounding communities and it is the synergy between the park and the community that ensures its long-term success.
The overarching strategy is to ensure equally of access for all surrounding communities. Out of 78 submissions, McGregor Coxall’s competition entry was shortlisted.
