After falling into disrepair, the new owners wanted to refurbish, reconfigure and expand the historic Bohn house to fit their modern lifestlye into this stylistically rare, iconic residence.
Inspiried from a 1937 film, the original architect designed the home to emulate its depiction of Shangri-La, using elements from the current time.
We took a holistic approach, preserving the original character by using existing proportions and true-to-period craftman shop to blend old and new; enhancing the unique elements such as porthole windows, curved glass solarium and circular door that mechanically operates at the touch of a button.
The remodel reimagines the interior spaces to feel less segregated, expands the kitchen and creates a new indoor/outdoor connection with the backyard to give the house a fresh, modern feel. While the addition of garage and bedrooms above is seamlessly stitched, making it difficult to differentiate the old from then ew in the finished project.
