K·haus by MXN Design is a one-off bespoke kitchen in the Ribble Valley, created around the way its owners actually live, prepare food and entertain.

Hidden architecture, living ingredients and expressive natural materials replace the conventional fitted-kitchen formula. The sculptural island combines a 100mm-thick cross-section of ash with two live-edged walnut slabs, joined by fine poured concrete and finished with dimmable COB lighting.

Individual solid-timber strips conceal cupboards, a pantry and even a fold-out double guest bed. The garden-facing layout includes distributed induction hobs, a raised dishwasher, herbs within reach and integrated planters for tomatoes and citrus trees.

Above, a completely bespoke ceiling incorporates 144 small lights, planted panels and a full-length double-glazed roof. Versace tiles, underfloor heating, illuminated shadow-gap skirtings and carefully layered lighting complete the space.

Beautiful enough to be photographed, but designed to be lived in. A kitchen with genuine character, unexpected functions and the perfect imperfections that make it impossible to repeat.
