The Oasis at Golden Sands

Make has been appointed to develop proposals for the Oasis resort after winning an invited competition and submitting a high level design study. Disconnected by perimeter roads and set back from the coast, the challenge was to link this island site with its surroundings to exploit the benefits of the beach, the sea and the facilities within the existing Golden Sands resort, while also creating an exclusive, high-end luxury resort. Our proposed design pushes the building right out to the edges of the site, in order to create a spacious, lush central landscape.

The perimeter building’s dynamic flowing form gives the resort its identity and comprises 200 luxurious suites which overlook premier stand-alone private pavilions. A dramatic rooftop walkway which runs the entire length of the perimeter building offers spectacular views out across the bay and inwards towards the heart of the resort.Rich and dense landscaping incorporating the existing mature trees and planting provides a tranquil inner oasis, and a reinstated water course reveals an attractive natural feature.

A new public piazza fronted by restaurants and cafes forms a vibrant social hub at the gateway to the development, and is the key element which relates the scheme to its wider context. Specifically designed for its location and setting, and aiming to become Make’s first LEED-accredited project and the most sustainable resort on the island, this low-density, visionary development will set new standards for tourism.
