5468796 Architecture and Symmetry Developments Presents: The Tree House International, award-winning architects design low-rise townhome project in emerging Birch Cliff neighbourhood
5468796 Architecture, internationally acclaimed for their astute, responsive and creative designs, have teamed up with Symmetry Developments, Engine Developments and Fortress Real Developments, as well as local architecture and interiors firm DK Studio to design The Tree House, a new low-rise townhome development in Birch Cliff. Tree House will affirm the area’s emergence as a desirable location rich with imagination and independence, as downtown Toronto progresses eastward.
The team’s goal is to raise the bar for high quality, contemporary architecture in the area by offering well-built, ample-sized and affordably priced homes and authentic community spaces for first time homebuyers, particularly families. Tree House will infuse the neighbourhood with architectural and social zest. Instead of a large residential building, Tree House will be composed of three separate blocks, with 39 townhomes in total, staggered to follow the property lines and maximize green space. The project will appeal to buyers who desire both indoor and outdoor areas, with exterior access in the form of courtyards, private rooftop terraces and gardens. The shared courtyards provide open communal space for residents, encouraging social engagement.
The two and three bedroom units will range in size from 935 sq ft to 1325 sq ft and their rhythmic, staggered geometry of stacked cells will ensure that Tree House is a signature address. The Garden and Town Loft units have been designed as shallow and wide layouts providing ample natural light, ventilation and views towards landscaped courtyards, while at the same time ensuring that residents have the desired level of shelter and privacy. The upper floors and rooftops of the buildings will feature sun-filled terraces and treetop views of their surroundings, while the lower floors have direct access to private patios and gardens at grade.
Tree House will be Winnipeg-based 5468796’s first opportunity to bring their signature of practical, intelligent and eye-catching architecture to Toronto. The firm has earned an international reputation for its dynamic civic gestures: buildings that blur the lines between private and public development and enliven conventional surroundings with exciting architecture. “We approach each project with the idea that people will live there for the rest of their lives”, explains 5468796 Principal Sasa Radulovic. “Through the careful interplay between contemporary architecture and exterior courtyards, The Tree House will become a place where families can grow together.”
