It is a 4,208.69 ft2 house located in a township near Mérida City, where a built-up can be found of what it used to be the henequen hacienda of Xcumpich (in the 1800), and when the city began to grow, it became a residential area. In a low human settlement, this area is characterised by an urban context due to the hacienda built-up, the amount of trees with enormous foliage and the township park.
In the evening, the locals sit under the tree shadows greeting their neighbours, children play on the streets, and there are neighbour's gatherings and the curves constantly. This creates more safety enviroment and communal living. Due to this, there is no need of fences and the use of levels and small vegetation are the solution to the house that can enjoy the outdoor context and, at the same time, it has privacy. The locals will also enjoy the outdoor context and the indoor vegetation without bothering the owners.
The house is built back towards the inside of the land to give a green space to the city and the neighbours can continue admiring the indoor trees and enjoying their shadows. People will also continue admiring the tree when they go by the land since the house desing does not privatize it, but “shares”it.
The house revolves around a tree. Using an “L” scheme, the house takes the shape of the land geometrically, enjoying, at the entrance, the land protagonist: an 80-year-old Pich tree. In this way, it is achieved that all inner spaces have a view to it, except the main bedroom that has an entrance to an exclusive and private backyard at the request of the client.
The project is based on a revolved axis allowing the house entrance to frame the Pich and giving a vestibular space between the public and private spaces of the house. Throughout the axis, there are two finishing both at the entrance and exit of the house. This kind of architecture makes the vegetation the project protagonist and together become a perfect cameouflaged with the context, both urban and social.
