TONKA

The brand name of TONKA, a Japanese-style donkatsu restaurant, was intuitive, and the client felt sincerity and confidence in the food. As a result, we also strongly focused on the food called donkatsu. I imagined the whole process of coating the dough with fried clothes, pulling them out of the oil, and slicing them. As expected, the biggest charm was the crispy surface and soft inner skin. Naturally, the concept keyword Crispy & Tender was set and the space design began in earnest.

The stone on the floor protruded from the glass to the facade, expanding the sense of space and embracing the natural stone as an object. This opens the introduction to the space but has a sense of weight. Subsequently, a plan was made to contrast the texture expressing the concept of Crispy and the texture expressing Tender inside. As soon as you collect it into the space, you can see it at a glance, but the texture of a rough material is expressed on the ceiling that the user cannot reach. By mixing bark (barc) with staco, the texture of TONKA was created. This was intended to create a greater sense of depth by putting the rough texture of nature in the space along with the external natural stone. Conversely, in the two areas where clothes are hung and eaten, the texture of coated wood and soft material was mixed and applied. The hanger on the left side of the space has a vintage texture on the top to emphasize the softness of the bottom that the clothes touch, and it is planned to make the texture look richer by using indirect lighting at the top and bottom.

Our space coexists with contrasting images, but it is harmonious. At a glance, it expresses TONKA's unique authenticity. We hope that our spatial design intention and the sincerity of the brand will meet and become a better space, and we are also certain about this.
