TRIBU is a group of 21 departments located within the Luum Zamá complex in the jungle of Tulum,Quintana Roo. The project seeks to respect and adapt to the natural context as well as to generate an interior-exterior connection in a timely manner.
The proposal is developed in 4 outdated towers integrated to the land which are arranged around a central courtyard, which works as a transition from public to private areas. This arrangement of volumes allowed us to house all units and respect 50% of the vegetation of the land.
The access is through two stone walls on which a wooden structure rests and generates a portico with views of the central patio. In the center, a Ceiba tree is raised and functions as a pivot to give access to two wooden structures that form the vertical circulations and at the same time function as viewpoints to contemplate the vegetation in its different levels.
The complex has four types of apartments which are assembled in the four towers according to their program and generate different environments inside. On the ground floor there are 5 pentgardens of 50 m2 each and 3 of 90 m2 divided into two floors with a structure of sapote wood that works as a mezzanine at the height and a half of the social area. On the first level there are 5 apartments of 50 m2 with balconies that allow the user to have direct contact with the vegetation. The last level contains 3 penthouses of 50 m2 with balconies oriented to the top of the trees that generate a dynamic rhythm in the facade, 2 penthouses of 80 m2 distributed in 2 floors with a rooftop on the upper floor and 3 penthouses of 90 m2 with the wooden mezzanine and a rooftop area with terrace and pool.
Materials are proposed that will age in a dignified manner and give the building character. The interior has floors and walls of apparent polished cement and sapote wood (mezzanine) and tzalam (kitchens and closets). Outside, the walls are patchwork painted with a mixture of regional soil which contrasts with the rustic wood of the facade. The exterior walkways are proposed with tezontle to have the largest permeable area and help the environment inside the complex. The contrasts in the exterior are worked with rustic wood and in the interior with sapote wood (mezzanine) and tzalam (kitchens and closets).
TRIBU seeks a spatial luxury rather than a material one, returning to the origin, to the essential, a change in the life of the users, a community lifestyle, an adaptation with the exterior and the vegetation of the context.
