A house that adapts to the dunes, the light and the sea

On one of Tróia's plots closest to the dunes and the shoreline, this house sets out to establish an intimate relationship with its surroundings, integrating discreetly into the topography and vegetation of the site. A carefully curated selection of materials reinforces that sense of belonging to place.

The house is organised as a sequence of staggered, overlapping volumes turned east, towards the ocean and the silhouette of the Arrábida mountains across the water. Its two storeys separate social life from private life: at ground level, verandas and patios blur the line between interior and exterior, while the upper floor opens the social areas onto the pool in a bright, open register. Three bedroom suites on the upper floor look out to the sea rather than the street.

The result is architecture that adapts rather than imposes — responding to the climate, the light and the landscape rather than working against them.
