On Rua da Junqueira, in Lisbon, Fragmentos has completed the rehabilitation and extension of a building known to the city for decades as the warehouse and shop of Mitera, a longstanding retailer of plastics and vinyl. Junqueira 307 draws on this memory to give the building a new residential life, preserving the scale and street presence that had always set it apart.
The intervention does not erase the site's past. It keeps the urban reading of the original building intact, while introducing an interior organisation designed for contemporary ways of living. The 2,350 m² scheme is organised around functionality and flexibility, with particular attention to natural light and to each home's connection with private outdoor space — courtyards and terraces that open the plan to air and view.
The extension sits discreetly behind the existing façade, respecting the alignment of the street while introducing a contemporary language through the refinement of its materials and detailing. A shared rooftop, with a swimming pool and landscaped gardens, extends the experience of living beyond the individual unit, opening onto the city.
The building occupies a plot next to the Quake Earthquake Museum, also designed by Fragmentos, and the two projects establish a quiet continuity between them: the timber used in the courtyard screens and roof treatments repeats from one to the other, creating a visual unity along the street while each keeps its own identity — one a museum, the other a home.
