In the town of Ericeira there is a problem, we are over building the coast.

Therefore the implantation is conceived to build less than what the local municipality allows, meaning more green area and less consumption of soil, the houses are two identical volumes with 450 sqm footprint each, and sits at different levels to adapt with the topograpny of the terrain.

The heights have been meticolously calculated not to obstruct ocean views of the neighbours and at the same time being at the top of the topography of the land to get the most of the stunning ocean views.

The houses are conceived as a series of monoliths on a platform looking towards the west, within the monoliths life takes it place and is protected from the strong sunshine of Ericeira.

In terms of construction the will be built stimulating a progress in the local way of building, the bones of the house will be built in concrete but walls and insulation will be hemp bricks, lime plaster will finish the warm minimalist look of the houses, cork will insulate roof and floor which will be primarily in local pine wood and marble stone for the wet areas.

Being close to the sea, the humidity problem is solved from scratch using hemp bricks and wateproofing the foot of the house with the appropriate membranes and air ventilation under the floor.

Caption

Rain will be collected from the roof with a system of invisible drainage pipes that will collect the water and re-use it for gerdening saving as much water as we can from a region that in the future could suffer from water scarsity.

A house development that wants to be radical in its form but light with its environment.
