VARANDAH

Flores da Cunha, Brazil – 2024 — Brazilian practice TAGIR FATTORI ARQUITETURA has completed VARANDAH, an eight-story commercial building located on a prominent urban corner in Flores da Cunha, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.

The project reinterprets the traditional office typology by incorporating extensive outdoor spaces into every unit — including terraces and balconies — in response to neuroarchitecture and biophilic principles. Each level is designed to maximize access to natural light and direct contact with open-air environments, aiming to enhance users cognitive performance and emotional well-being.

Externally, VARANDAH features a dynamic composition of angular volumes clad in ribbed black aluminum, creating a striking identity in the cityscape. The faceted facade alternates between solid and transparent elements, reflecting the program’s hierarchy while framing views and controlling solar exposure.

The material palette — exposed concrete, steel, ceramic elements, and aluminum — pays homage to the city’s industrial roots while supporting a raw, textural aesthetic. At street level, the project introduces an active frontage and recessed ground floor, creating permeability and urban engagement.

“The building seeks to make working in the city more breathable — both literally and emotionally,” says the architecture team.
