Villa Kerckebosch is a contemporary private villa in the wooded residential area of Kerckebosch in Zeist, the Netherlands. The house is designed from the qualities of its natural setting: the existing trees, the filtered daylight, the heathland atmosphere and the sense of shelter created by the surrounding landscape.

From the beginning, the aim was to design a house that would not dominate its surroundings, but become part of them. The position of the volume was carefully defined by the existing trees. Materials such as concrete stone, timber, glass and dark window frames strengthen the connection with the wooded context and give the villa a calm, grounded appearance.

The design balances openness and privacy. A more closed side elevation creates shelter and intimacy, while the garden side opens up with generous glazing. A high corner window with sliding elements blurs the boundary between inside and outside. The concrete floor continues towards the terrace, strengthening the spatial continuity between the interior and the landscape.

At the centre of the house, a generous entrance hall and void connect the different levels. Natural light enters deep into the home, while a rooflight above the entrance frames views of the treetops. Villa Kerckebosch reflects the design approach of Station-D Architects: modern, warm and context-driven architecture in which space, light, material and landscape come together.
