In Milan’s historic centre, Yapa opens a second location. Not as repetition, but as evolution. StudioMacBride returns to Yapa with an intimate understanding of the restaurant’s origins, having been involved in shaping its earliest identity. This familiarity gives the new space a natural continuity while allowing for a more progressive interpretation.

We began with a close reading of Chef Matteo Pancetti’s culinary language: the cultural threads within his menu, the places and techniques that inform it, the stories carried through his cuisine. The original Yapa revealed a clear identity. This second space gives that identity a more progressive expression.

The interior moves beyond replication toward refinement. Material clarity guides the composition. Hand-applied clay plaster, carved smoked oak timber, and split-face travertine create surfaces with both structural presence and tactile warmth. Transitions are considered with care, and the atmosphere is built through precision rather than ornament.

The spatial programme shifts. A bar-led dimension introduces a different rhythm of arrival and dwelling. The addition of Yapas, small plates intended for sharing and grazing, creates fluidity between states: drinking, dining and gathering. Movement becomes intuitive, shaped by appetite and mood rather than sequence.

A collection of furniture was designed specifically for this space. Each piece is grounded yet nuanced, quietly echoing the cultural geographies that influence the menu. Bespoke here is not decorative. It is a calibrated relationship between object, atmosphere and use.

Operational flow is strengthened without announcing itself. Service moves with ease, and the room feels intimate and grounded. Architecture and hospitality work in alignment.

This is authored work shaped through narrative research, material honesty and an understanding of how people occupy space. Quiet, deliberate and urban in character.
