THE PROPERTY
The Newbury Boston is a luxury hotel and a beloved landmark in the city. Located in the premier shopping and dining neighborhood of Back Bay, and adjacent to The Public Garden, this iconic establishment originally opened in 1927 as one of the first Ritz-Carlton hotels in the United States. Leveraging the talent of three world-renowned designers, the building will be thoughtfully transformed into a 286-room hotel with 16,000-sq-ft of stunning event spaces, signature dining experiences and a reimagined front entrance on Newbury Street.

For more than 90 years, The Newbury’s location has served as a cherished and iconic destination, welcoming Boston residents, world leaders, dignitaries and celebrities alike. A massive restoration and revitalization of the hotel pays homage to its timeless and rich history, while also incorporating modern luxury and carefully curated guest experiences. The main entrance will be relocated from Arlington Street to Newbury Street and guests will be welcomed into an elegant landscaped terrace plaza (a visual nod to The Public Garden). Dramatic window awnings and a new lighting design will enhance the hotel’s neoclassical façade and complement its distinctive historic details.

In designing the hotel’s new entrance and public spaces, internationally recognized architect Jeffrey Beers (founder and President of the interior architecture and design firm Jeffrey Beers International) sought to invoke the spirit of the building’s heritage by incorporating many historic details, including the original cobalt blue chandeliers from the Main Dining Room, into the meticulous redesign. The hotel’s lobby and public space features a distinctive selection of artwork, bringing to life the hotel’s traditional place as a salon for the arts. Above the rosewood check-in desk, an elegant chandelier casts a warm, welcoming glow highlighting rich material elements throughout the space including the Nero Dorato marble floors.

Just off the lobby is a private library lounge with reserved seating for guests of the hotel, complete with a fireplace rediscovered in the renovation, and a curated library - a nod to the city’s intellectual achievement in science and the humanities. Flexible seating arrangements comprised of oversized lounge chairs and sofas in an assortment of jewel-tone leathers and velvets, accompanied by dark wood tables meant to compliment the oak flooring, encourage informal socializing. A palatial grand staircase leads to the hotel’s second floor level, which houses sumptuous event space. Historical architectural elements, including existing marble columns and an original banister, flank the majestic steps. A massive chrome chandelier, with custom glass lighting enclosures, acts as a striking modern addition to the classic stairwell.

GUEST ROOM & SUITES
Heritage architecture and residential comfort define each guestroom and suite at The Newbury Boston. Designed by acclaimed interior design firm Champalimaud Design to be residential in feel, each of the hotel’s 286 rooms employs a calming color palette of blues, greys, and creams alongside tactile materials and custom furnishings. The rooms' monolithic appeal is contemporary yet reflective of the tailored Bostonian aesthetic. Handcrafted wood, herringbone accents, and marble touches further add a sense of lavish materiality and craftsmanship. Mimicking a home or a residence, the expansive foyer, bathroom and closet are spatially organized to feel like one generous dressing area – with off-white limestone and wood finishes incorporated in both the closet and vanities that create a bright, yet tranquil environment. Many rooms feature views of the Public Garden through beautifully framed window nooks outfitted with blue-velvet seating, and murals of lush landscapes in the corridors mirror the adjacent garden below.

Each room is appointed with original artwork by illustrator Veronica Lawlor, alongside bespoke amenities including Byredo “Willow” bath products made expressly for the hotel, Frette robes and linens, in-room Nespresso Vertuo espresso machines - as well as private access to The Library and Fitness Center. Guests looking to upgrade their experience may choose to book one of the hotel’s 90 luxury suites (the most in the city), or one of two dramatic Presidential Suites.
