Near The Hague’s Central Station, artists Silo have developed a powerful spatial concepts that transform parking a bike into a museum-like experience.
With its high, bright white ceiling, smart directional markings, spacious aisles and back-lit glass walls, the subterranean bike parking experience is not only exceptional it is quality, but on a more pragmatic level also enhances the comfort and safety of the thousands of daily users that use the facility.
An integrated application of light and spatial identity makes the facility appear more spacious, while also more intuitive, thus making it easier to find your bike and the end of a long day.
A work by Dutch graphic artist M.C. Escher forms the basis of one continuous image on the entire light wall that encloses the parking facility. Representing the past, present and future architecture of The Hague, façade elements of iconic buildings are subtly woven together into an awe-inspiring urban landscape. Cycling past, one can experience the city’s skyline in one smooth movement.
