Located on the edge of the ever-evolving creative centre of Werksviertel, in east Munich, M8 work & create, designed by Oliv Architekten, is an office building designed with a high level of flexibility and functionality for a diverse set of users.
The expressive brick façade of the office building takes inspiration from 19th-century industrial architecture. The building's strict simplicity is achieved through prudent proportions and a defined facade composition. The ground floor and first floor are covered by 44 round arches that balance the horizontal focus on the standard floors.
Classic clinker brick facades are reinterpreted in this design with brick walls and large window areas. The exquisite elevation is enhanced by intricately crafted pilaster strips on each axis. The interiors comprise office spaces characterised by maximum flexibility and ample natural light.
A double-height foyer with exposed concrete walls is a striking architectural feature that occupies almost the entire width of the building. A black steel staircase leads to a high garden on the next floor. Diverse lounge areas and cafe bars serve as a gathering space for visitors and tenants. The foyer and inner courtyard act as spill-out areas for the building, providing a sense of respite.
The roof doubles up as a terrace garden. The design ensures excellent performance through its intensive green areas and outdoor kitchens for every user. Therefore, the framework for a building's long lifecycle is its adaptability, timeless elegance, and cutting-edge technological achievements, with ecological and economic sustainability at its core.
