BauderGREEN Flora Seed Mixes are a range of UK-provenance wildflower seed blends developed for use on biodiverse green roofs. Designed specifically for rooftop conditions, the mixes incorporate carefully selected species suited to different habitats—such as urban, coastal, chalk grassland, or shaded environments—allowing planting strategies to respond to site context and ecological intent.

The mixes are formulated with additives including tackifier and mycorrhizal fungi to support high germination rates and reliable plant establishment. The tackifier helps bind seed to the substrate, reducing loss from wind or washout, while the fungi enhance root development and nutrient uptake during early growth.

Installed over a biodiverse substrate as part of a wider green roof system, the vegetation layer develops over time into a varied planting matrix, typically establishing fully within 18–24 months depending on conditions.

Sustainability considerations
The seed mixes are based on native or locally appropriate species in line with Flora Locale guidance, supporting the creation of ecologically relevant habitats at roof level. Several variants carry the Royal Horticultural Society “Plants for Pollinators” mark and are endorsed by Buglife, reflecting their role in supporting pollinator species and urban biodiversity.

By enabling biodiverse green roofs, the system can contribute to habitat creation, urban ecological networks, and BREEAM biodiversity credits where applicable. In addition, certain mixes are designed to tolerate or respond to urban conditions, with plant selections that can absorb pollution and CO2 while providing forage and shelter for insects and birds.

As part of a layered green roof build-up, the vegetation can also support broader environmental performance strategies, including rainwater attenuation, mitigation of urban heat island effects, and protection of the underlying waterproofing through reduced thermal stress.

Ebbisham Drive, Ashmole Estate

Ebbisham Drive transforms a former garage site within the Ashmole Estate in Lambeth, London, into 15 affordable rented homes. Located on a quiet private street, the development completes an established cul-de-sac and contributes to the urban character of the area. The scheme provides one-, two-, and three-bedroom dual-aspect homes, including three wheelchair-adaptable units and five fam...
