‘ShadeVolume’ is a lighting collection, inspired by the classic lampshade. By combining and deforming this familiar object, the project explores a new language of lighting.
Trotereau and Karhof developed a strong and simple system that gives the possibility to link lampshades together. With few generic shapes, the system allows for endless combinations of lamps.
The principle gives the opportunity to develop a single product but as well large-scale bespoke installations.
In Totem Forest ShadeVolume they celebrate that principle, the designers made a 4.5-meter tall totem, made of 16 lampshades connected together. The enlightened sculpture revolves slowly in the space revealing the diversity of shapes that can be created by ‘ShadeVolume’.
