client brief
Client for the project is a young working couple and their two children. They have an inclination towards the modern minimal sense of design. They are from the creative field and wanted to exhibit their collection of art somehow in their apartment which they collected over time. They simply wanted a place to live a quality life and call upon friends and family frequently as they are very social by nature. Kids were too young but they have their preferences for colors and comforts. Family is open to new ideas and thoughts.
concept note
The project of a two-level apartment was designed for a family in which there are two children. Since the family is very hospitable and loves to spend time together, we decided to divide the whole space into two zones.
The style of the apartment is quite minimalistic, monochrome and concise. We decided the color scheme and material pallet to achieve an atmosphere of balance, which is very characteristic of the family that will live in this apartment. The design of the apartment is made in muted pastel colors and minimalist aesthetics. the main challenging job to showcase their work of art was simplified by using big frames and mirrors to reflect the art and make space look more bigger than it is.
design process
As we conceptualize and designed around the six pillars of brand ideology, firstly we designed and executed such furniture and finishes which can we be handmade by the craftsmen, we tried to avoid machine usage and encourage handcrafted work on site. Secondly, we try to fuse different finishes and material on-site and tries to attain the perfect balance between them i.e. wood, glass, metal, and paint. Thirdly we made an attempt to have more sustainable material and finishes for constructing the store. Fourthly we plan and design such furniture, partitions and display units which can be easily moved and can form different space each time when needed. finally, we used traditional, earth raw materials in the making of all furniture, products, and finishes, Most of the light designing happens on-site as we wanted to give it a feel of a theatre.
We started to design the project on the same conceptually selected pallet and scheme. We come across the limitation of flooring and false ceiling as it was initially done by the builder so we started to shift our concept around these two limitations. We kept a very limited material pallet i.e. rubberwood & mica, deco paint, jute fabric, white color with the touch of pink. we added a few quirky elements in the form of art, artifacts, and turquoise color which add freshness and youngness to the environment. We used a lot of mirrors and glossy finishes to enhance the natural light and attain the sense of contemporary minimal living. We kept all the artwork on the focal points of human heights.
