Concept
The project unifies store, office, storage and operational functions within a clear architectural structure. Its identity is defined by a family of sculptural elements formed directly on site: oversized cubic blocks and vertical pillars that read almost as totems. Their controlled shifts establish rhythm and depth without relying on modular construction, giving the interior a grounded, crafted presence.
These forms operate simultaneously as structure and gesture — massive, intentional and calm. Their surfaces carry relief-like textures that catch light softly and reinforce the tactile, material clarity of the space. Drawing from the muted tones of the Norwegian winter, the interior remains minimal, bright and focused, creating a quiet backdrop for the daily activities of MODO Store.
Design Strategy
The architecture works through mass, proportion and the physicality of material. Shaping the elements in situ enabled precise control over scale, edges and tactility, resulting in forms that feel sculpted rather than assembled. The totemic pillars anchor the space, while the enlarged cubic components establish
a consistent and legible spatial language.
A minimal palette — whitewashed surfaces, steel and reduced detailing — ensures clarity and cost efficiency. All functional zones operate as one integrated system, with circulation kept direct and unobstructed. Steel curtains introduce flexibility without disrupting the measured calm of the architecture.
Atmosphere
25-07 MODO Store is characterised by restraint and precision. Light moves across the relief-like textures of the sculpted blocks, creating a soft interplay of mass and shadow. The architecture frames the interior activity rather than competing with it, offering a grounded environment that reflects both the operational needs of MODO and the contextual approach of OFFICE INAINN.
A subtle presence of irregularities — slight variations in texture, edges shaped by hand, traces of the in-situ process — is intentionally preserved. These imperfections act as a quiet counterpoint to the clarity of the space, adding warmth and authenticity. They remind that the project is not manufactured but made, and that its material honesty is part of its value.
