Introducing Altozano, located in the historical center of Albacete, the heart of the province. The project consisted of a comprehensive reform of a quadrangular house with a surface area of ​​​​ca. 85m2. The original distribution presented the rooms conceived for daytime use far from each other; they were connected by a long, U-shaped corridor giving access to two bedrooms, one bathroom, and the kitchen.

The superb location of the house not only offers spectacular views of the most famous square in the city but also collects—thanks to its height and its large façade—a vast amount of natural light and air flow, which is essential for proper and comfortable ventilation. These were the reasons for Z3 Arquitectura Interior to carry out a new design enhancing the special views. Thus, we opted for larger and interconnected daytime spaces facing the exterior, as well as for technical solutions improving the house’s unique features.

The new dwelling is born out of the complete reconfiguration of the existing space. The entire interior was emptied, thus taking advantage of the maximum surface available. We decided to place the kitchen in the central area of ​​the house, directly connected with the dining room. This wise decision has a positive impact on the rest of the project.

Originally, the dwelling had only one main room and a single bedroom. Thanks to the new design, the hallway was shortened by 70%, allowing for a third extra room as well as a spacious bathroom and an installations area holding the entire aerothermal system.

One of the owners’ main premises was to add a small study somewhere in the house as well as a comfortable laundry room. This request was solved by creating an L-shaped piece of furniture, consisting of two pieces separated from each other and purposefully delimiting the hall from the living room. This unit creates a versatile and spacious entrance room with a triple use hidden behind its doors: apart from the reception area, the two pieces of furniture offer extra storage on the front sides and also serve as a study on the back. The other part of the unit—larger and finished in oak slats—is directly linked to the minimalist kitchen and includes the laundry and cleaning area, perfectly organized and concealed.

Thanks to the new soundproofing and thermal insulation, the house enjoys a high level of privacy and intimacy. This is supported by enormous floor-to-ceiling cabinets in the bedrooms and endless storage corners in the rest of the house. Order and serenity are the project’s hallmarks.
