The assembly includes the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Metropolitan Palace and several administrative buildings. This large complex was built since 1833 by the Viennese architect Johann Gustav Freiwald. It belongs to the neoclassical style and was opened in 1887 in the presence of King Carol I.
