Refurbishment of a flat | Housing

The project started by reversing the original direction of the house. Organised on the basis of the building's structure, it generated a programmatic layout that was unsuited to what was intended for the dwelling.

Based on this principle, a design strategy was established that was independent of this structure. The only aim was to optimise the distribution of the house's space, dividing social and private spaces according to the only natural light available.

The bedrooms were defined according to their minimum regulatory width, automatically generating all the remaining space as a living room. The living room integrates the entrance and kitchen areas in an attempt to maximise the area of this single space. However, a hierarchisation of this space was defined through the existing morphology, the lowering of ceilings or the creation of compositional elements such as the kitchen island.

Thus, it would only make sense to assume the original structure, in a clear demarcation through matter, overlapping with what was the aim of the intervention. The reading of the white planes and elements and the continuous flooring sought to emphasise the character of the exposed concrete as a unique element of the house.
