The design focused heavily on natural light, and cross ventilation aspects of design which are often forgotten in today’s version of what a ‘passive house’ is. These features work hand in hand to achieve a seamless transition between inside and outside.

The clients wanted a house that, through intelligent design, could be naturally heated and cooled. They wanted the best use for the site and existing features present on the site without dominating the existing rear garden. The house was to be modest and use modest materials whilst through intelligent detailing, pocess architectural flare.

The main challenge was to create a home for individuals whom were seeking an architectural home without an extensive budget. This meant that the design could not rely on expensive materials to elevate its aesthetic quality. Rather the challenge that we faced, as architects, was to use cost effective materials and through intelligent detailing, make the building sing. In some ways the house was an exercise in industrial design as much as it was in architecture.
