ASID American Society of Interior Designers San Francisco & Northern California Headquarters
In 2008 I was elected to the Board of Directors of ASID and served as President, chairing the Board through October 2010.
I am not a Politician, so when I arrived I looked at the space and thought the best way I could contribute with would be to Visually improve the Image and space of the ASID Chapter to make the Headquarters look better. As it should be as that is what Interior Designers do, you have to show you can make things look good.
Some work had already been done by the previous Boards, and the credit and thanks goes to them too. However to me the reception was most important, the first image on arrival. After all this space is in the middle of the San Francisco Design Center, all designer look at it. And it was a success. Joseph Horan, FASID who had served the Board years before, went out of his way to personally congratulate me. It was a surprise. Designers were pleased, proud to be associated or members.
Two rooms divided by glass partitions are Boardroom, to the right and Member room and files office, small room to the left.
Counter
The reception counter is centered with the access door, and curved to soften the flow. The tops are a recycled glass material and all curved corners. The desk behind is for the receptionist and manager and an additional workstation.
Glass Partition. Particularly in such a small space, glass transparency s a must.
Sustainability
The concept was based on all Sustainable Materials though we did not attempt to obtain any level or award. The space is too simple and small. Also Trade members were encouraged to support the Association with their materials.
Art on the walls
I created an Art Gallery, displaying Art on a rotation basis so the walls would have a say as well, and a party at each rotation as galleries do, and invited a gallery to run it as well.
Window treatments
The window sheers are motorized, as the view is pleasant but sun and heat are harder at some times. Support provided by a trade member.
