Winner of 2023 MBA Regional Building Awards, category Additions and Alterations
Set on a steep slope at the edge of bushland with stunning views of the sea, this home renovation and addition came with a fair share of challenges, one of them being in a high Bushfire Zone.
The building rests on 43 poles, anchored in sandstone, and is a marvel of construction. Tristan Davis is the director of Davis Builders whose company recently received 5 awards at the prestigious Master builders Association Regional Awards, including winner of the category Alterations and Additions with ‘Killcare Beach Retreat’.
Tristan Davis and his team and suppliers brought this beach retreat to life, including Paarhammer with BAL-FZ windows and doors that do not require shutters.
The home is built on several levels and features lift-slide sliding doors as well as stacker sliders that open the house to suspended decks, offering panoramic ocean views. In addition, tilt & turn windows and fixed glazing including a double height façade achieve a light filled interior and close connection to nature.
Meticulously made from FSC certified Manilkara Bidentata timber frames with Schott Pyranova glass in a double-glazed IGU, Paarhammer BAL-FZ products have been tested, approved and are compliant to all relevant Australian Standards. Apart from bushfire safety they also offer an energy efficient solution, and with their airtightness achieve a quiet and comfortable home.
The design was prepared by architect Ellen Woolley whose projects are often on challenging sites, working with bushfires, extreme topographies, environment conservation, sustainability and heritage.
This home is nestled into the natural landscape with stunning ocean views, enticing the occupants to the easy indoor-outdoor living of a beach retreat.
