Just outside the A10 ring road, the area around the Koningin Wilhelminaplein, known as Ring Zone West, is currently being transformed into a vibrant live-and-work neighborhood with ever closer connections to the historic centre of Amsterdam.
The master plan, by KCAP Architects & Planners, combines office space, new homes and all kinds of public facilities that will add fresh energy to the neighborhood. New building will increase the usable volume above ground level from 33,000 to 90,000 m2. Meanwhile parking will be confined to underground garages, creating space for a public square and abundant greenery, with everything linked by bridges and walkways.
Together, MVSA Architects and Heyligers design+projects have designed two residential towers that will form the generous ‘topping’ of the existing Berghaus Plaza, plus an office tower of 11 floors, which will stand on the east side of the original development. The challenge for the designers was to retain the keynotes of the original building, based on the functionalism of the 1960s, while giving it a fresh, contemporary look.
In the bustling heart of Amsterdam, near the A10 ring road, the area around Queen Wilhelmina Square, called Ring Zone West, is undergoing a remarkable transformation into a vibrant residential and commercial neighbourhood. Has vandaglas played a role in the Berghaus Plaza project. This involved the use of high-quality curved IsoPerform and TriplePerform Sun and SKN176 insulating glass, Emalit and Emalit Satinato, covering a total area of no less than 10,000 m2.
The master plan, designed by KCAP Architects & Planners, includes office space, new homes and various public facilities, vandaglas contributed to the visual splendour and sustainability of the project. However, most hot bent glass is produced on a project-specific basis, with the size of the pane and radius being the main normative paramaters. vandaglas Döring specialises in confex and concave hot bent glass, executed in double- and triple-glazing.
The use of Iso- and TriplePerform Sun and SKN176 curved glass with innovative production methods such as ‘spacer simulation,’ which ensures better matching of the glass, has resulted in unparalleled aesthetic quality. With this, vandaglas has contributed not only to the functionality of Berghaus Plaza, but also to the visual splendour of the complex. With the curved Iso and TriplePerform insulating glass, vandaglas has left a lasting impression on this unique and vibrant part of the city.
