BR HOUSE

BR HOUSE

Hernandez Silva Arquitectos as Architects

The project is located in an unconventional ground where both its form and location differed from a typical lot.

The property is set by a flat platform of 1,800 m2 with almost five meters above the street entry level, where a great 9 meter concrete wall stands in the back. This platform helps to create not only  spectacular but also unconventional views which can best be appreciated from a corner of the platform rather than the its front. The depth perspective created at this point is extraordinary where you can appreciate the growing development of the skyline from the city in contrast to green spots and the Barranca of Huentitán at the horizon.

The formation of an unusual context led us to develop the project from a close relationship with the clients which also helped us transmit the proposed concept for such peculiar ground.

The final emplacement was almost the same as the first one after multiple explorations as we had to be sure it was the proposal that best suited our requirements.

If we observe the floor plan and take the street as a basis, the monolithic volume forms a letter "T" which can be a simple emplacement but it allowed us to put together the site characteristics and the clients requirements. The long part of this emplacement is oriented to the west which generates two empty spaces in collaboration with the volume that comes across it; one of them oriented to the north which helps reach a proper scale when interacting with the big concrete wall and the other one that generates this empty space and embraces the yard towards the view from the corner mentioned previously.

The house is emplaced by four platforms; the cars are located on the street level as well as the gym and all the services. The social area is found on the second level which is integrated by the main entrance of the house, the living room, dining room, terrace and the kitchen; all this previous spaces are linked, completely open and come together as one only place which was the main idea; only the kitchen can be set apart from all the other spaces in case it is needed. A family room and a services area with independent communication is also located on this second level. Four bedrooms and a studio are located on the third level and finally the roof garden is located on the fourth level which achieves a spectacular view among the valley and was carefully sheltered by vegetation for it not to lose its privacy.

The vertical circulation is formed by a subtle and light central stair integrated by an elevator that allows communication in-between the four levels of the house. Two open stairs, one on each side of the house communicate the street level with the main platform of the house.

The concept of the house is emphasized by both its volumes and colors. The first platform is hidden by a vegetation hill and above it starts the visible volume of the house. The ground floor is made up of a grey color tucked base and the platform above it stands as a floated white colored volume. The materials used in this house are gray quarry strips of San Andrés, parota wood in its entirely, apparent concrete and great format marbles with white and grey tones depending on its location.
