Two houses with gardens from the first third of the last century are transformed into one, which takes advantage of their location at the back of the plot and the elevated position of the garden with respect to the street. This guarantees good sunlight and views over the Barcelona skyline and the sea. The house preserves in the treatment and volumetry its dual origin and uses the exterior spaces in relation to the interior in almost all its floor area.
The main point of the project is the treatment of natural light. As the position of the house allows openings only on one of its sides, the project organizes a strategy of capturing sunlight in various ways, especially zenithal light at the rear through skylights and a glass staircase, with sliding doors that open and close, small glass roofs,... that create an intense modulation of the natural light. ... that create an intense modulation of light and offer quality to the interior, so that all the rooms of the house, whatever their location, have natural light from the main openings overlooking the garden and from the back.
As for the facades, these are resolved with a ventilated facade solution with natural-colored stoneware pieces and, at certain points of the terraces, with wooden slats that give continuity to the exterior pavements of the same material. The result is a façade that offers a play of volumes and materials that recalls the old duality of the pre-existing houses.
