The project is located in Tapalpa, a small town at the top of Sierra Madre Occidental, the main mountain range running though the west of Mexico. Tapalpa is neighbor to the town where Juan Rulfo was born and which was his inspiration for writing all his novels.

Built on a valley with an easy slope and almost no trees, we situated the project just below a small hill found on the site to be able to merge our project with the landscape. Perpendicular to the hill, thick stone walls -built with the stone we found on site- raise from the ground directing the users to walk down the hill and enter to the house which receives them with a patio housing the biggest tree on the site, as well as, some big rocks we found on the house’s excavation which remind us of the site’s memory.

The house runs parallel to the hill giving entrance to the house together with the stone walls in order to emphasize the views to the landscape at all spaces when inhabiting the project.

We used mostly local materials for the construction except the steel used to build the service area and some other small details which will become into an ocre tone similar to the site’s dirt as time passes by and eventually become one with the surroundings preceding the house.
