The renovation of an apartment, designed by Nomade Architettura, in the heart of the Navigli area in Milan, one of the most characteristic and evocative of the city. The apartment had not been touched for decades and had to be completely redesigned The main idea was to play with the original peculiarities of the apartment, such as the wooden beams of the ceiling, covered until the day the existing ceiling was demolished, and the original fixtures, in contrast to a certain number of strong design choices. Among these is the kitchen, enclosed in an iron and glass box, communicating with the dining area through a door and a window inside the structure, which allow the room to be closed if necessary. The furniture chosen once again plays with the contrast of some period elements and some well-known design objects. Particular attention has been paid to ensuring that different scenarios can be created day and night. The atmosphere of the house is warm and captivating. In the bathrooms an important role is played by the materials, handmade cement tiles were chosen for the floors, playing with the contrast with the more delicate white tiles on the walls. In both bathrooms, the real protagonist is the sink: in the guest bathroom an old restored sewing machine is used as a base for the sink, in the main bathroom the washbasin base and the mirror are made of custom-made iron.
