The Val d’Oust Cultural Center establishes itself as a key public facility at the intersection of the Church Square, Jules Ferry Street and a tree-lined public square. The project forms part of an approach aimed at regenerating public spaces and strengthening pedestrian connections across the municipality.

Designed on a single level, the building is organised around a central landscaped courtyard, a shared and unifying space that brings the different programmes together while providing natural light to each area. The library, multifunctional space and auditorium are arranged around a through-lobby, creating a connection between the village forecourt and the public square, while ensuring a clear understanding of circulation routes and uses.

The project is part of a broader reflection on the renewal of rural town centres. Rather than reproducing vernacular archetypes, it explores the tension between preserving local identity and adopting a contemporary architectural language. The architectural expression draws on the local context through the use of a brick masonry base, timber-framed windows and doors, and a zinc roof with a unified pitch, while embracing a contemporary volumetry.

With an emphasis on simplicity, restraint and durability, the architecture celebrates natural light, views and materiality. Conceived as an inclusive, adaptable and unifying place, the project contributes to the revitalisation of the town centre and establishes a new cultural focal point for Val d’Oust.
