The word desire derives from Latin, composed of the particle de, which can indicate a lack or a destructive action, and the word sidus, sideris, which means star. Therefore, the verb de-siderare can express two different meanings depending on the context: in the first case, a feeling of lack of constellations, of fixed points through which to orient oneself, and in the second case, the desire to break and destroy a cage that contains and constrains. Through the immersive installation De Sideris, which spans three floors, Pamela Ferri wants to recount an ascending journey of transformation and spiritual and intellectual enlightenment, in which the individual breaks down into his or her multiple selves.

Human beings delude themselves into thinking they are a single person with a single personality, but in reality, every time the word “I” is uttered, it represents a part of the self. These selves are connected to feelings and desires and are constantly changing, creating a continuous internal struggle, the result of education, society, religion, and traditions.

In “The Fourth Way,” Gurdjieff argues that human beings can change by acquiring new skills through specific inner work. There are three main paths, those of the fakir, the monk, and the yogi, each of which has its own difficulties, while the fourth path does not require immediate sacrifices but invites us to work on ourselves, without believing blindly but actively practicing.

De-Sideris _ description
De-sideris is a structural installation that moves within the space it occupies and shapes itself within it, creating a new place of interaction between the MatriceMater that composes each of its expansions and the people who enter it, even if only passing through. In this case, the space involved was the front part of the Snos office building, covering the entrance area (ground floor), first floor, and second floor. This area was repeated vertically, and it was here that the various parts of De-Sideris materialized. The entire structural installation moved mainly from the ceiling, descending and modulating completely in the air. The part where the installation structure descended concerned the glass windows and other points that did not obstruct the passage of people. The entire installation was initially anchored to the ceiling by a mesh of metal wires that were hooked onto the existing structural grid. The second mesh of wires was used to move it around the space. This process was repeated, starting from the ground floor and then moving on to the first and second floors, rhythmically changing the color and movement. De-sideris' red color started from the bottom and changed to black and white towards the top (second floor). The first floor was the mixed and metamorphic part (white - black - red).
