In this project, we took care of the distribution of spaces and interior design, facing the challenge of transforming an apartment that was originally delivered with walls and finished kitchen and bathroom areas. Our first task was to dialogue with the clients to understand their family needs and the furniture they wanted to keep. We discovered two challenges: the original layout to be delivered by the building did not adapt to their needs and as a second challenge, the clients wanted a contemporary interior design, which represented a challenge when adapting it to the extensive collection of furniture and art they owned, mainly because of the very particular collection of furniture.

We analysed the spaces to develop comfortable areas related to the family dynamics and found a great opportunity in the large outdoor terrace, we decided to create a fluid connection between indoor and outdoor. We persuaded clients to leave the layout blank and reconsider the bathrooms and kitchen delivered, to achieve a comprehensive interior design with a uniform language in all spaces.

The first important intervention was to create a guiding axis from the lobby, through a corridor that leads to the guest bathroom, living room, dining room, kitchen and family room.

In the part of the terrace that is just outside the public area, we wanted to generate an esplanade that connects the 3 main spaces where the central figure is a hippopotamus sculpture that the family acquired years ago and was created as an outdoor bench. That is why we selected this space where it could fulfill its function and be the protagonist.

In the private area, the driving axis leads to the family room, a versatile space for various family activities. This space is connected to the terrace, providing a pleasant and functional atmosphere. In addition, it acts as an anteroom to the bedrooms, with discreet accesses integrated into wooden lambrines and the TV cabinet, to maintain a clean and coherent space.

The main challenge was to combine contemporary materials with classic furniture, using light and dark tones of wood to create a harmonious gradient. This combination allowed for the integration of stone materials that added movement and texture. We incorporate discreet moldings to add a classic touch without breaking with the contemporary design.

The lighting, a mixture of indirect and spot light, includes special atmospheres for some works of art.

What makes this project so special is the integration of the furniture and art collection into a contemporary and timeless space, perfectly adapted to family dynamics. Each space is connected, but at the same time offers privacy and a unique touch, while maintaining the coherence of the overall design of the apartment.
