DW-House

This two-storey house in Bukit Timah conveys a harmonious balance of classic and contemporary aesthetics in this reinterpretation of the black and white bungalows from Singapore's colonial past.

Initially a challenge, the site's triangular shape later proved to be beneficial, as the right angled layout of the buildings created an ideal space for an enclosed garden. The sloped elevation also allows ambient light and natural ventilation to filter through the swimming pool and into the basement that shelters the gym and water garden. Western sensibilities and Asian aesthetics, evident in the minimalist Japanesque façade and use of bamboo, are beautifully married against a backdrop of contemporary tropical architecture to form this unique home.
