Elm Park

Solarlux as Manufacturers

Dublin 4, in the heart of Ireland‘s capital city, is perhaps the most desirable postcode in the Emerald Isle. A model of sustainable urban development was built here in 2007/2008 on approximately one hectare site, adjacent to consulates, embassies, a golf course, the oldest university in Ireland and overlooking the harbour. It is a green microcosm of apartments, a hotel, restaurants, a clinic, a leisure centre and spacious parklands.

The six building project was designed by Merritt Bucholz and Karen McEvoy (BMcEA, Dublin/Berlin). The young, multi-award-winning team of architects is one of the most successful in Ireland. Their projects bring together the environment and design which embodies a respect for craftsmanship and showcase the materials employed. Wood, steel, concrete and glass work in symbiosis and contrast.

Solarlux supplied 665 panels of the SL 25 balcony glazing system for the glass balconies of 510 running meters in length. The frameless slide and turn system, which can be opened in a variety of ways, offers versatility of balcony use for all seasons. Depending on the weather the panes can be partially or fully opened and stowed to the side.

The minimal use of devices and materials and the uniform facade grid accentuate the simplicity and clarity of the structures and facilitated the extremely economical façade construction.
