The Site’s History as the Conceptual Foundation
The Pictures’ food hall is located on the grounds of a former cinematic equipment factory that operated here throughout the 20th century. The project’s challenge was to adapt the old industrial workshop for a new function. After studying the site’s history, the design solution emerged organically: a return to its industrial past, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens.
A Dialogue of Eras: Constructivism, Loft Aesthetics, and Bold Accents
The visual language blends constructivist architectural elements, raw loft-style industrial aesthetics, and vibrant modern details. Geometric forms, exposed overhead utilities, and preserved brickwork pay homage to the site’s heritage. In contrast, saturated accents—such as orange and teal hues, along with decorative lighting—inject dynamism into the design.
Zoning: From Food Hall to Stage
Food Hall: The central hub features global cuisine stalls, each with a distinct style unified by shared colors and design elements.
Seating Area: Designed as an open space with cohesive furniture, finishes, and decor.
Bowling Alley: Adjacent to the food hall, orange accents in furnishings and lighting reinforce the Pictures’ brand identity.
Stage: Hosts concerts, lectures, and workshops. Its design nods to cinematography: the podium and backstage are clad in panels resembling perforated film stock.
Service Spaces
Beyond public zones, the project includes administrative offices, storage areas, and kitchen facilities for the stalls, ensuring seamless operations.
