In 2016 the highway which dissected the city of Maastricht, was relocated to a 2-layer tunnel. In the urban plan of West 8 a green park is situated on top of the tunnel route. Town houses and apartment buildings are placed on either side of the park thus restoring the urban fabric and connecting the eastern and western part of the city.

Five architectural firms worked closely together on creating a varied and solid architectural street scene, supported by brickwork in a varied colour palette.
